"Simple words with far-reaching meaning are good words." This is one of the profound sayings of Mencius, an outstanding exponent of the Confucian school. He was honored as the "Lesser Sage," and Confucianism is often referred to as "the teachings of Confucius and Mencius."
A precious legacy of Mencius is his remarks on many topics, such as self-cultivation, education and learning, government and the people, human relations and making friends; and fraternal duty and filial piety. Many of these celebrated dictums are still very educational and enlightening today.
