Using conversation analysis (CA) techniques, this book compares Chinese EFL learners' discourse against that of the Australian students and studies the major interactive features of Chinese college students, discussing the contributing factors of these characteristics and its significance for second language education and testing.
This book consists of eight chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the motivation, reasons, purposes, significance and the research questions; Chapter 2 offers a comprehensive literature review, including the theoretical underpinnings and previous research on spoken interaction; Chapter 3 discusses the research methods, involving data collection and analysis; Chapter 4 provides the major research findings; Chapters 5, 6, 7 examine the research results and findings based on the data analysis. Chapter 8 concludes the study.
Dr. Liandi Liu, Associate professor of School of Applied Foreign Languages, Faculty of Foreign Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University, graduated from Department of English Language, Shanghai International Studies University (1993) with BA in English Education, from Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the University of New South Wales, Australia (2003) with two MAs (majoring in English Education and Applied Linguistics), and from Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Human Sciences, Macquarie University, Australia (in 2012) with PhD in Linguistics. Prof. Liu has been engaging in the teaching and testing of English language in Beijing Language and Culture University since 2003 and has published a number of papers in the academic journals on the instruction and assessment of English language.
