This product is a video product introducing Chinese characters and the relevant culture. The whole DVD lasts about 60 minutes, divided among 10 episodes, each centering around one topic. It reviews the origin and evolution of Chinese characters, introduces the structures of Chinese characters, analyzes the wisdom of Chinese culture embodied in Chinese characters (for example, the relation of Chinese characters to such aspects as nature, human body, lifestyle, architecture, folk customs and philosophy), displays the artistic beauty of Chinese calligraphy and discusses the spread of Chinese characters. The DVD is elaborately designed, the scenes being beautiful. Chinese and Spanish narrations and captions are available for users to choose any combination of them. A handbook goes with the book, containing the Chinese and Spanish scripts for the video and explanations and illustrations for 50 common characters. The 50 characters are mostly pictographic characters, each of which is provided with the phonetic transcription, Spanish annotation, explanation of its stroke order and a vivid display of its evolution from the concrete image to the oracle bone script, bronze script, small seal script and regular script.
