This is the Volume four of Step By Step: A Course in Chinese Reading Comprehension. With altogether 16 units, 4 texts per unit, it is for international students who take two years' program to use in the 4th term; or for Chinese language majors in the 2nd grade. Developed for Chinese learners who are at the intermediate level, this course aims at improving the learners' reading skills comprehensively through the carefully selected materials and designed exercises which train students' skills in fast-reading, summarization and deduction. The difficulty and amount of vocabulary, the content, length and difficulty of the texts and the exercise types are close to HSK guideline, which helps the students to adapt themselves gradually to the Reading Comprehension in HSK.
This course is designed for one term. The 4 texts of every unit can be used in classroom and after class separately, and some can be read and explained thoroughly, some be used to train students' skills in fast-reading.
Zhang Lina is an assistant professor in Chinese School of Xi'an International Studies University. She has been engaging in teaching and research of Chinese as a foreign language for many years.
